March 9th: On this day...

... in 1997, Kentucky captured its 20th SEC Tournament title by blasting Tubby Smith and Georgia 95-68. It was Rick Pitino's last SEC Tournament. His career ended with a 17-1 mark in the SEC Tourney, the only loss being with the 1996 team (go figure). Kentucky spotted three players on the All-Tourney team in Anothony Epps, Jared Prickett, and MVP Ron Mercer. This game is also well known for a breakout performance by one Cameron Mills, who hit 4 of 7 threes during the final and finished with 16 points. This was Tubby Smith's last game against the Cats, as C.M. Newton would bring him to Kentucky from Georgia to continue the running dynasty.
