March 16th: On this day...

... in 1985, the man pictured above blocked a shot, then took it the length of the court for a game clinching slam to beat UNLV 64-61. Kenny Walker led UK to two upsets in the NCAA Tournament in 1985, helping the Cats make it all the way to the Sweet 16. Many critics thought Kentucky (16-12) didn't even deserve a bid in 1985, but Sky and Richard "Master Blaster" Madison proved otherwise. Walker was later named to the West All-Region Team scoring 52 points in two tourney games.

  1. Is it just me, or do these "On this day..." posts make you a little depressed?

With things so bad right now, it stings a little to remember "the good old days".

Speaking of stinging, I plan to watch the '96 championship game on Netflix sometime soon.

  2. It stings that we are a 4 seed in the NIT. IF we beat UNLV we travel to Nebraska to play Creighton. How far have we sunk?

  3. The NIT is a no-win (pardon the pun) situation. If we win the NIT, that really isn't anything to brag about. If we lose in the NIT...man, I don't want to think about it.

  4. Especially the "On this day" segments from March.

What about the timing of Kenny stylin' on an outdoor bench just as a photographer walked by. What are the chances?

If you get a chance, check out my comment from 3:01pm on Matt's story.

  5. Sky is always ready. Any scuttlebutt on BCG, etc?

  6. Yeah, that photo doesn't look posed at all!

  7. I don't know anything. For his sake, I hope he wins a few in the NIT. We don't need this to snowball.

  8. It seems as if the usual suspects (Clay, Tipton, and Vaught) have been acting as if BCG is on the hot seat or may have someone in his ear about another opportunity. Usually I don't pay much attention to this as they usually don't come to pass. However, Larry Vaught usually doesn't stick his neck out there like he has been. Where there's smoke.......? Who knows. I'm sure things will become clear in the weeks ahead. By the way... 9:30 game for the NIT? 9:00 games are bad enough for us working folk. I'll still suck it up and catch a game at Memorial on TV.
