March 6th: On this day...

...in 1971, Kentucky clinched its 25th SEC crown by smacking the Vols around 84-78. Larry Steele led the Champs with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Other contributors included Rupp's first African-American player Tom Payne (20 pts. 8 rebs.) and Cameron Mills' father Terry (13 pts.) Payne was actually ejected from both of his Tennessee games for flagrant fouls. Well done Tom! Coach Rupp had one more season with the Cats before retiring as the winningest coach in the history of the world.
