Presser Recap

Coach Cal had a long laid back press conference this morning that was easy listening. Of course, I'm comparing this to the previous coach who rocked back and forth rubbed his hands relentlessly. John Clay has a thorough recap here. Here are a few of the highlights:
  • Says Darius is the real deal. Harrellson has played well. Liggins and Galloway have been too out of control.
  • The last remaining assistant coach will be named within about a week. Tony Delk and Scott Padgett are "coaches-in-training" that will learn the ropes, do camps, etc.
  • He would love to do Big Blue Madness at Commonwealth Stadium, but the logistics probably won't let that happen (mainly weather).
  • Texas has called about playing a Louisville/Houston type neutral site series. Loves to play neutral site games. Wants to play in Cincinnati, Nashville, or Atlanta. Trying to get game rekindled with Notre Dame. Still plans on playing in Cancun (Stanford or Virginia) in 2009-10. Still plans on Maui in 2010-11.
  • Trying to get a relationship with the Chinese going. They have tons of 7-footers and talent. He's looking for the good point guard.
  • Interested in bringing back former players who never got their degree. Wayne Turner and Ron Mercer have already inquired about coming back to get their degrees.
  • Plans on setting up a fantasy camp for fans to come play with former players.

On the last point, can you imagine how much money they would make off of this? They could charge an infinite amount of money and it would still have tons of interest. The downside of this is many Dad's will spend their kids college funds to be a part of this fantasy camp. You know it will happen.
