The First Practice
Eric Lindsey, of Cat Scratches, was able to attend last night's practice in what was mostly a feeling out session. The Cats are allowed to practice two hours/week until April 15 and last night practice went for about an hour and a half. The practice consisted of dribbling and layups. I cannot imagine a better place to start with this team. Here are a few of his observations:- Coach Cal was intense, but very hands-on. Doesn't teach by yelling, stomping feet, or singling players out. A bit different from his predecessor.
- The first hour was all dribbling. The Cats were sloppy. He mentioned this has to change. Even the big's need to be able to handle the ball.
- Darius Miller will be a freak in this system. Perfect. A Kentucky Mr. Basketball has a new lease on life. From what I can tell Miller and Jon Hood have very similar games. This makes me smile.
- If you can't hit layups in practice, you won't be playing during the season.
I saw an article a few days ago that Derrick Rose made it a goal of his during one game (Championship?) that he would not take a single jumpshot. Everything would be layups. IIRC, he didn't take a single jumpshot that game.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to see the finished product. Only 6.5 months until the season!
