Well if that wasn't a letdown, I don't know what is. The Cats came out on top of the world, only to snatch defeat one more time. I know it's second guessing, but I would've loved to see PaPaw say, "Screw it. We're going for it on fourth and goal."
Would you have been pissed off at a call like that?
I mean......what's the worst that could've happened.
Cal's Cats looked unbeatable today as they did everything they wanted in a 92-63 blasting of Rider. Big time confidence builder for the Boys as the first few game were a bit close for the rabid UK fan base. This was no doubt one of the easiest game to watch as Big blue had no less than five or six SportsCenter top 10 plays this afternoon.
John Wall (21 points - 11 assists) did his thing again and again, taking Rider off the dribble whenever he wanted getting And 1's about every third or fourth time down the court. Eric Bledsoe (11 points, 3-6 3PM) came up with his ever timely three's and Daniel Orton (14 points - 6 rebounds) let us know once again that if DeMarcus Cousins (18 points - 6 rebounds) over-anxious during a game, he'll be more than capable to take over down low.
Watching this game was effortless. Being able to see the Cats do whatever they wanted, wherever they wanted, was a pleasant surprise from the previous train wrecks (i.e. BCG Era).
Enjoy the weather and let's bring these pigskin Cats a win home tonight.
I've said it once and I'll definitely say it again. Pat Patterson (19 points - 18 rebounds - I mean c'mon, seriously) is ridiculously fun to watch right now. Three words: HE DESERVES THIS.
After being on the job only two years, UGA VII has passed due to heart failure at the age of four. Therefore, no live UGA will be at tomorrow's game between the Cats and Dawgs.
As if we needed any other factors going against us Saturday, the passing of the big guy above can't help us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the UGA family.
Two of the more diminutive players on each of our sports teams have been declared out for this weekend's games. KSR says Eric Bledsoe (ankle sprain) likely will not take part in Friday's exhibition with something called Clarion. Everybody and their Mom's have declared Derrick Locke (bum knee) out for this Saturday's glorious weather game v. Eastern. Therefore, the path to World Domination might be sidetracked for a bit.
Hopefully each of these absences won't be the difference between winning and losing, especially with the football team. Our running backs (Locke aside) have been a major disappointment during the 2009 campaign. And we all know EKU didn't fall over against Indiana early in the season, coming within a goal-line fumble from winning. We were told how deep this team was in the preseason, its time to find out if someone's willing to step up.
The gauntlet for Rich Brooks has been laid. Unfortunately, he is the one who did it.PaPaw called last week's Mississippi State game the biggest game in 30 years. Since we lost, doesn't that make the EKU game the latest, "biggest game in 30 years." It does in my book. If you want packed houses at Commonwealth (once basketball starts) and want people to care about football, you can't lose games you should win and start the SEC 1-4.
For the basketball Cats, we've got plenty of time to start second-guessing our new coach. And you know its going to happen. We're Kentucky fans. People are already complaining about the lack of 2010 recruits! Doesn't anyone else think Coach Cal has this under control? Look what he pulled for us after April 1, 2009!
Knowing Eric Bledsoe will be the only guard opening night v. Morehead, resting him was the only move for Coach Cal. If for no other reason than to guarantee a point guard for the first two fake games and the first two real games. The two exhibitions also allow each of our freaky point guards a chance to play without the other in a game situation. Because if you don't think two quick hand check fouls will be called against our guards on the road in the SEC, you're kidding yourself.
It's definitely up there, as Eric Lindsey (Cat Scratches) lets us know that viewers with Insight cable will get to see their Cats in High-Definition for the foreseeable future. The upcoming Blue-White scrimmage (Wednesday) and this weekend's football game vs. Mississippi State will be televised on Insight channel 929. All of the other early season basketball games that were supposed to be televised on FoxSports South or Big Blue Network will now be offered in HD.
And as anyone with Insight knows, channel 929 is a "Special Events" HD channel serving no purpose other than random Cincinnati Reds HD broadcasts. And as any Cincinnati Reds fan will tell you, their season is usually over after a month or two anyway (i.e. its a worthless channel).
In essence, with the new ESPN contract and the combo of Insight and Fox Sports stepping up, the beatdowns for the remainder of the football season and the Race to 2000 will be clearer than ever!
And for those without Insight cable or Kentucky HD access, call your cable provider. That's one thing I've never understood with Kentucky fans: we bitch and bitch about our teams, coaching decisions, uniform decisions, Coal money boosters, etc., but for the most part expect other people to call the cable providers and request technology advances.
As we all know, the football Cats are sitting at 3-3 right now. Wins over Miami (OH), Louisville, and Auburn and losses to the consensus #1, #2 teams in America with Florida and Alabama and a very good, in and out of the poll South Carolina team. That leads me to my question of at what point will the Cats start making some noise in the polls? If we win the next 4 games, which is very possible and really should happen, that would put us on a 5 game win streak leading into a trip to Athens. Could the Cats be ranked and possibly favored going to Georgia?
All questions that we hope will be answered in the next month. Looking at the polls I see Oklahoma still ranked at #25 with the same record as the Cats. I am in no way saying we are better than Oklahoma, but when you compare UK and OU you will see an interesting story. Oklahoma is 3-3 with losses to BYU, Miami (FL), and Texas. I think the Cats 3 losses are better losses than those 3 and Oklahoma wins are over Baylor, Idaho State and Tulsa. I would make a strong argument that the Cats wins are over better teams than Oklahoma.
So is Oklahoma really better than Kentucky? I would say without their Heisman winning quarterback, Sam Bradford out for the season, NO,. I think a UK versus Oklahoma bowl game in the Cotton Bowl would be fun for all. Matching up the 2 best conferences and an up-and-coming team versus a staple in the top 10 over the past decade. Just food for thought.
So says Larry Vaught. This was the only choice to make. There will be a learning curve, but the future is now after the unfortunate injury to Mike Hartline.
You could beat around the bush with Will Fidler all you want, but we all know Newton gives us as good a chance to win without Hartline. If he's going to beat the likes of Eastern and Louisiana-Monroe, letting him see the game speed at Auburn will be a good pop quiz.
Rich Brooks sure is going to great lengths to try and upstage the upcoming basketball season, eh?
BBB's Ashland bureau has confirmed the rumor that has been speculated for some time now. The infamous duct tape bandit is a Louisville Cardinal at heart.
1. Wake up. Take a look at yourself in the mirror. Realize what a loser you are.
2. Grab red shirt, staright-billed cap, AK-47, 9mm, and menthol cigarettes.

It's football time in the Bluegrass ladies and gents. Go Cats.
The first quarter and a half wasn't the prettiest, but our Boys made up for more than enough in the last two and a half to give the Queen City a Big Blue win.
Trevard could be leading the nation in INTs and TDs if he could've caught some bunnies, but one for a Pick Six will get the confidence rolling.
The Wildcat was a success with Cobb and Locke. Let's do it some more.
Chris Matthews got on the board with a jump ball. Hopefully this gets the ball rolling for the Dirty Cards in a few weeks.
I still have a 5-7 record for our Big Blue. I'd love to be proved wrong.
MJP at WLEX just said Aaron Boyd might be keeping it gangsta on the sidelines this season because the coaching staff has decided to redshirt the Lexington sophomore. According to most reports, it seems as though Mr. Boyd has had some maturity issues.
If what MJP says is true, it means the coaching staff doesn't think Boyd is as valuable as he thinks he is and/or they might be deeper at wide receiver than we originally thought. Either way, we wish Aaron well and hope to see him in Blue next season. The kid has to want to change his ways though.
If I remember correctly, we went through some shaky times with Shane also.
Also, Rick Pitino had sex in a Louisville restaurant floor with a crazy woman.
And Billy G was arrested for driving drunk after a night of golf. And if you're going to arrest for driving drunk, might as well arrest him for putting drunk too! OOOOOOOOOOOOh!
Promising wide receiver E.J. Fields has gone down with a foot injury that will keep him out for most of the season. A big blow for an unproven receiving corp. Rich Brooks relayed the message via Twitter saying E.J. was having a nice summer, but surgery is in the works.
John Connor is still nursing an ankle sprain and the team will know more in a few days.
Derrick Locke and Alfonso Smith have ran the ball well in practice, but lack conditioning.
PaPaw also gave props to Trevard for making the "Play Boy" All-American team. I'm guessing either Brooks has never seen a Playboy before or he was trying to stay away from the Twitter police. Think about the stories ol' Hugh and PaPaw could turn out. Like lookin' in a mirror.
Injuries are a part of any football team early in camp. But for this year's Cats to have any chance at a fourth straight bowl, they need to limit them. Having said that, the number of wounded Wildcats is growing just a week into fall practice. We've heard all summer how this may be PaPaw's deepest team talent-wise since he has been at UK. We might be close to finding out.
If there's a perfect time to get the young guys involved, it's early on in the season. Hopefully, the first three weeks will allow our newcomers to get acquainted with everything they need to before going through the gauntlet (games 3-6).
Offensive Line: Center Jorge Gonzalez is in the doghouse already and will miss Game 1. This isn't injury related, but time will be lost. Guard Jake Lanefski underwent knee surgery today and will miss 2-3 weeks.
Running Back: Derrick Locke is coming off a major knee injury. Moncell Allen has been inconsistent and battled weight issues. Alfonso Smith is injury prone and already has missed time this fall for a stress fracture in his foot. Newcomer/Walk-On Coshik Williams has a sprained foot.
Wide Receiver: Randall Cobb is currently sporting a hurt back (back injuries are scary). Aaron Boyd is suspended for immaturity.
Tight End: TC Drake has a pulled groin.
Defensive Line: Jeremy Jarmon's replacement DeQuin Evans is coming off a hamstring injury.
If the bench is as good as we've told over the past few months, we may not be in as bad of shape as we were in the past. But with this being Kentucky football, they need to prove it for people to Believe. Who will step up? Opportunities are abound.
