February 29th: On this date...

... in 2004, your #9 University of Kentucky Wildcats moved to 21-4 on the season with a 70-64 win in Baton Rouge.  The win clinched at least a share of the SEC Eastern Division title for the fifth straight season.   Leading for all but 14 seconds of the game, Tubby Smith's team went 6-6 on free throws in the final 35 seconds to put away the Bayou Bengals.  Gerald Fitch, the squad's lethal sixth man, led the way with 23 points on 6-10 shooting (5-8 3PM).  Fitch ended the 2003-04 campaign with 79 3PM, good for the 6th all-time.  Not too shabby for the sixth man. The victory was UK's 5th straight (and most recent) on a leap day.  The Cats own a 7-2 record all-time on February 29th.  Kentucky would go on to win the SEC Tournament (Tubby Smith's last), before getting upset by UAB in the NCAA's second round.
